Description

Malby’s and Son Terrestrial Library Globe is a fine 18-inch (45.7cm.) diameter terrestrial library globe. As with every Malby piece, the detail is exquisite and the craftsmanship is extraordinary.

Your eyes will be please to find that this Malby piece has a print on cartouche with the phrase “A most authentic source including all the most Geographical discoveries. In the same vein, its original style continues: “Malby’s and son, Maps and globes sellers to the admiralty”. Lastly, but not least, it features the date: “1 January 1851.” Thomas Malby’s firm continued under his son from 1851, and he was still in business as late as 1884.

On the other hand, the sphere has applied hand-colored gores and is mounted in a brass meridian on reddish-brown mahogany turned stand with a stretcher. Especially wooden stands by Malby’s and Sons can be absolutely captivating.

Each of the 3 legs certainly fitted with a magnetic compass. Globes without a compass were considered incomplete.
